RED POPPIES & VETERANS

How many of you know the history behind the red poppies veterans hand out when you give a donation?
Many people don't and many have probably never thought about it.

So, in honor of Memorial Day, I am going to pass on a little info about how those little red flowers and Veterans came together.

KIELBASA WITH.......

With what???
Well, there is a method to my madness..............seriously there is!

I have inherited a couple of comfort food recipes from my fathers side of the family. This is one of those dishes that has been made the same...........at least as far as I know.............for a long time. You see my father is the oldest of 8 kids (he was born in 1925-my mother is the youngest of 10)! Each one of his siblings has had 2 to 10 kids, and they have kids; so keeping up with all of them is really difficult, as you can imagine! So knowing who in the family has changed this recipe is difficult.

The recipe is quick, simple and has very few ingredients. The only thing I have changed is one of the ingredients; which is cabbage. My daughter is the only one that likes cooked cabbage, so if she wants cabbage then she has to make her own!

Here is my recipe with side notes.........................

SPAGHETTI ALL'AMATRICIANA

Although I really, really don't like cooking, I do every now and then get the overwhelming desire to cook. Now don't get too excited, because it usually passes right in the middle of  what ever I am making! HEHE!

Anyways, I was stalking reading blogs and I came across this recipe over at Katherine Martinelli
courtesy of Katherine Martinelli
and since my family loves pasta and I was in the mood to cook, I figured "WHAT THE HECK" I'll give it a try.
I changed a few of the ingredients and used less of a few things to suit some of the picky eaters I have!

Here is the recipe:

OH MY! A HERO & HIS DOG

As I was catching up on my blog visits today I came across this story. Now I am not a crier. But there are times when I read something that pulls on my heart strings so hard, it feels like it is going to break in two. This is one of those stories, one it is about dogs and two a soldier both things that are very near and dear to my heart.

(I tried to find the original post but I had no luck, so I am re-posting it from What we're Saying)

Make sure you have tissues handy!!
